INTERNATIONALIZATION GUIDELINES

Objective

Establish an Internationalization Strategy for UAH Faculty of Engineering (FIN-UAH) as a Jesuit institution and an active member of the International Association of Jesuit Engineering Schools (IAJES) and the International Association of Jesuit Universities (IAJU).

Overview:

UAH´s Faculty of Engineering was founded in 2022 and aims to form professionals with solid disciplinary and technical foundations, with social and humanistic formation to respond to the challenges of sustainable development in a dynamic and complex world.

FIN-UAH took UAH´s long-tradition education model in Humanities, Education and Social Sciences under the concept of “Humanities need Engineering and Engineering needs humanity”.

Internationalization Strategy:

FIN-UAH Internationalization Strategy reflects the Jesuit institution’s distinct identity while promoting a global perspective within the engineering program. It involves the following approaches:

  • Mission Alignment: FIN-UAH adheres to the Jesuit values of social justice, ethical leadership, and service to others emphasizing the Jesuit commitment to ethical engineering practices and responsible technological innovation.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Encourage collaboration between engineering and other disciplines to address global challenges comprehensively.

  • Global Perspective in Curriculum: Infuse global perspectives into engineering courses, integrating cultural, societal, gender and ethical considerations.

  • International Collaborations: Foster partnerships with Jesuit and non-Jesuit institutions worldwide for collaborative projects.

  • Faculty Development: Support faculty in developing international research collaborations, participating in conferences abroad, and engaging in cross-cultural teaching experiences.
  • Community & Industry Outreach: Encourage engagement with community and industry attracting relevant national and international stakeholders through projects allowing the use of FIN-UAH infrastructure: FABLAB, Hacker Lab, Center for Frugal Innovation, among other initiatives.

  • Study Abroad & Service-Learning Programs: Establish study abroad opportunities for engineering students, focusing on immersive experiences that integrate technical learning with cultural understanding applying engineering skills to address societal needs in different contexts.

  • Diverse Faculty and Students: Strive for diversity and inclusion among faculty and students, promoting a richer cultural exchange and provide workshops or training to enhance cultural competency among faculty, staff, and students.

  • Language Proficiency: Offer language courses to help students and faculty communicate effectively in a global context.

  • Global Alumni Network: Build and maintain connections with international alumni, leveraging their expertise to enhance the program’s global reach.

Assessment and Reflection:
Regularly assess the plan’s effectiveness in achieving internationalization goals and adjusts as needed.
